Cialis Together: Buying Tadalafil Without a Prescription

Tadalafil 10mg is available from UK pharmacies without a prescription. What the pharmacist will ask, who cannot buy it, and how it compares with the prescription route.

Following advice from the Commission on Human Medicines, the MHRA reclassified Cialis Together (tadalafil 10mg) to a Pharmacy medicine. It was the first tadalafil product to be made available this way, following the same path Viagra Connect took for sildenafil.

"Pharmacy medicine" is a middle category. It is not on the shelf next to the paracetamol, and it is not prescription-only. You buy it from a pharmacy after a conversation with the pharmacist.

The Conditions of Sale

  • Men aged 18 and over with erectile dysfunction
  • Maximum one 10mg tablet per day
  • Maximum pack size of eight tablets
  • Sold following a discussion with the pharmacist

Who Cannot Buy It Over the Counter

The reclassification deliberately excludes people for whom tadalafil needs medical supervision:

  • Severe cardiovascular disorders, or high cardiovascular risk
  • Severe kidney failure
  • Liver failure
  • People taking certain interacting medicines — nitrates above all

If you fall into one of these groups, tadalafil is not off-limits to you. It means you need it prescribed by a doctor who knows your history, which is a different route rather than a refusal.

What the Pharmacist Will Ask

Expect questions about heart conditions, blood pressure, other medicines and recreational drug use — poppers (alkyl nitrites) in particular, because that combination is genuinely dangerous. The conversation is short and it is the safety check that makes non-prescription supply acceptable.

It is worth answering it accurately. The pharmacist is not gatekeeping for the sake of it; they are looking for the interactions that put people in hospital.

How Tadalafil Behaves

Tadalafil's defining feature is duration. It works for considerably longer than sildenafil — long enough that it removes much of the timing pressure that people find unhelpful. It takes around 30 minutes to an hour to start working, and food affects it less than it affects sildenafil.

Common side effects are headache, flushing, indigestion, back pain and muscle aches. Back and muscle pain is more characteristic of tadalafil than of sildenafil.

Over the Counter vs Prescription: the Real Trade-off

The over-the-counter route is quick, private and needs no appointment. The limits are the fixed 10mg strength, the eight-tablet pack, and — significantly — the fact that nobody investigates why you have ED.

Erectile dysfunction is frequently the first visible sign of cardiovascular disease, and can be an early indicator of diabetes. The prescription route usually involves someone looking at that. Buying over the counter indefinitely means the question never gets asked.

Prescription supply also opens up other options: a lower daily dose taken continuously rather than before sex, higher strengths, and alternatives if tadalafil does not suit you.

On Price

Over-the-counter packs and prescription supplies are priced quite differently, and the comparison is not straightforward — an eight-tablet branded pack is a different product from a larger generic supply. For regular use, the prescription route is usually the cheaper per-tablet option; for occasional use, the convenience of the pharmacy counter may be worth the premium.

A Sensible Approach

Using the over-the-counter route to try it is reasonable. Using it for months without ever seeing a doctor is the version worth avoiding — not because the medicine is unsafe, but because the symptom might be telling you something the tablet does not fix.
